The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 

In the face of the worst economic crisis since The Great Depression, Congress passed H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. This recovery package is the first critical step in a concerted effort to create and save jobs, invest in the middle class, and get our economy moving again.

The plan makes much-needed investments in our aging infrastructure and can help bridge the growing budget gap that threatens vital education programs.  With one of the biggest tax cuts in history, it provides 95 percent of Americans with tax relief and will help Nevada diversify our economy with tax incentives for renewable energy, making us less dependent on the tourism and gaming industries.  And with unprecedented accountability and transparency measures, the American people will know that the money will be spent wisely and effectively.

By modernizing our health care delivery systems, improving our schools, investing in our infrastructure, and developing the clean energy technologies of the future, the Act will lay the foundation for a robust and sustainable 21st century economy.
