Congresswoman Titus Nominated to Education and Labor Committee

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District announced today that the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee has nominated her to serve on the Education and Labor Committee for the 111th Congress.  The nomination must now be approved by the Democratic Caucus.

“Building on my efforts in the classroom and in the State legislature, I will continue to fight for a quality education that is affordable and accessible so that Nevada’s children have the resources they need to meet their full potential,” Congresswoman Titus said.  “And during this time of economic crisis, it is critical that we strengthen the middle class and restore economic security by investing in America’s workers whose innovation and ingenuity are second to none.”

“With 30 years of first-hand experience in higher education, Dina Titus will be a great asset to this Committee and our efforts to rebuild and strengthen our nation’s middle class,” said U.S. Rep. George Miller (D-CA), the Chairman of the Committee.  “As a State legislator she was a tireless champion for Nevada’s workers and I know that in her new post she will bring that same enthusiasm and determination.”

The Education and Labor Committee oversees federal programs dealing with education at every level as well as workforce initiatives aimed at strengthening health care, job training, and retirement security for workers.  For more information on the committee’s work, click here.

This is Congresswoman Titus’ second committee assignment.  She has received her top choices, including the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which she was named to last week.
