Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District announced today that the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada is receiving $816,274 through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding. The money is part of $44.2 million for state public utility commissions (PUCs) which regulate and oversee electricity projects in their states.
The money will go toward hiring new staff and retraining existing employees to ensure they have the capacity to quickly and effectively review proposed electricity projects. The funds will help state PUCs accelerate reviews of the large number of electricity utility requests that are expected under the Recovery Act. State PUCs will be reviewing electric utility investments in projects such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, carbon capture and storage, transmission lines, energy storage, smart grid, demand response equipment, and electric and hybrid-electric vehicles.
“This latest announcement of Recovery Act funds will help Nevada create a 21st century electricity system that takes advantage of our abundant renewable resources, focuses on efficiency, and lowers energy bills for consumers,” Congresswoman Titus said. “These investments will also lead to new jobs for Nevadans as we revamp and modernize our aging electricity infrastructure.”
