Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District announced today that special payments for more than 185,000 service members who had their enlistments involuntarily extended since September 11, 2001, are now available. Under provisions Congress enacted this summer through the 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act, service members will receive $500 for every month they were held under stop-loss orders.
“Every member of our Armed Forces and his or her family make a sacrifice when serving our nation, yet for those service members who remained on active duty longer than planned, these payments are a small recognition of the additional hardships they endured,” Titus said. We owe it to the men and women who went above and beyond the call of duty to recognize their brave service.”
The Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay is available to service members who had their enlistment extended or retirement suspended due to the Stop Loss between September 11, 2001, and September 30, 2009. Service members from every branch of the military will receive compensation.
Service members may begin submitting claims for Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay and have until October 21, 2010, to do so. Service members must provide documented proof they were Stop Lossed with their claim. Family members of deceased service members should contact the appropriate military service for assistance in filing their claim:

• Navy: send email to NXAG_N132C@navy.mil
• Marine Corps: https://www.manpower.usmc.mil/stoploss
• Air Force: www.afpc.randolph.af.mil/stoploss
“This Congress has stood with our men and women in uniform, passing legislation to expand the new GI Bill, improve veterans’ hospitals and facilities, and provide for advanced funding for the VA. These payments build on our efforts to honor our commitment to our brave service members,” Titus added.
