Titus: Budget Cuts Taxes, Cuts Deficit, and Creates Jobs

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District voted in support of the Fiscal Year 2010 budget conference report today, which passed by a vote of 233 to 193.  The budget provides $1.7 trillion in tax cuts for middle-class Americans, cuts the deficit by nearly two-thirds, and creates jobs by making critical investments in health care reform, education, and energy independence.

“With tax cuts for hard-working Nevadans, this budget is a blueprint for future growth and economic recovery,” Congresswoman Titus said.  “It begins the difficult work of turning around our economy and putting an end to the recession we inherited.  By restoring fiscal responsibility and cutting the deficit, this budget lays the foundation to restore economic security for the American people, while creating jobs at a time when Nevada is struggling with record unemployment.”

The budget makes middle-class tax relief a top priority by extending the 2001 and 2003 income tax cuts, including the child tax credit, for the vast majority of Americans and including the Making Work Pay tax cut for 95 percent of American workers.
