Henderson, NV – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District announced today that Nevada is receiving $438,573 through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. A member of the Homeland Security Committee, Titus highlighted money that will help improve state emergency preparedness plans and ensure quick recovery and restoration from any energy supply disruptions.
“With more than $148 million in recovery money announced for Nevada through the Department of Energy alone, we are making critical investments toward a clean energy economy that will take advantage of our abundant renewable resources and create good jobs,” Congresswoman Titus said. “The funds announced today will not only help integrate that renewable energy into the power grid, but will also help prepare Nevada in the case of an energy emergency.”
The recovery act funds can be used to address cyber security concerns and prepare for the challenges of integrating smart grid technologies and renewable energy sources into the transmission network, which is important for states like Nevada that have abundant wind, solar, and geothermal energy sources.
“As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, I look forward to working with my colleagues to address this important issue. As Nevada’s clean energy grows, it is important that we focus on cyber security as well, and this funding will help us achieve that goal,” Titus added.
In addition, states can hire or retrain staff and expand state-level capacities to address challenges to their energy systems such as blackouts. Planning for energy supply disruption risks and vulnerabilities can lessen the devastating impact that such incidents can have on the economy and health and safety of Nevadans.
