May 7, 2014 Today Congresswoman Dina Titus announced the Department of Interior approval of the Moapa Solar Energy Center Project. The 200 megawatt development will be located on the Moapa River Indian Reservation in Northern Clark County.
“This project is critical to the economic future of the Moapa Band,” said Titus. “This major solar installation also builds on our region’s rapidly expanding leadership in the development of utility-scale, clean energy generation. Our recent successes in this field not only create new jobs in our community, but also provide cost-effective, more environmentally friendly sources to power homes and businesses throughout Southern Nevada. We must continue on this path.”
The Moapa Solar Energy Center is expected to generate enough power to run approximately 60,000 homes and will support up to 500 jobs at peak construction and 10 permanent positions. No more than 30 acre-feet of water per year would be used during operation.
