House Passes Titus Legislation to Protect Seniors from Increase in Medicare Part B Premiums"The Medicare Premium Fairness Act before you today will eliminate this inequity and protect all Medicare enrollees so that no senior will see his or her premium increase or experience a Social Security check decrease. Because this bill is fully paid for by using existing funds including the Medicare Improvement Fund and it meets the PAYGO requirements, it is a responsible way to stand up and provide for our seniors during these tough economic times."
Titus Supports Landmark Health Care Legislation“It will give all Nevadans peace of mind by banning the insurance industry practice of discriminating against people with preexisting conditions. And this bill will benefit seniors by beginning to close the donut hole that leaves them paying high out-of-pocket expenses for prescription drugs and by reducing waste in Medicare that drives up the cost of premiums.”
Titus: Health Care Reform Will Strengthen Small Businesses so They Will Be Critical Engines of Growth"All of these improvements combined will strengthen small businesses so they will be critical engines of growth in our community. It’s time small businesses knew who really stood up for them and cared about them and their employees."
Las Vegas Sun: House Poised for Historic Vote"Titus also leaves a valuable imprint on the bill. She passed an amendment in committee to allow more small businesses to buy policies from the new health insurance exchange. The amendment was popular and expanded in the final House bill. 'The new bill has a lot of improvements and I’m glad to have been part of it,' Titus said this week. 'I’m ready to vote for it and move on to creating jobs.'"
Titus Votes to Extend Unemployment Benefits and First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credit"A vital component to our economic recovery is ending the foreclosure crisis that has swept Nevada. The first-time homebuyer tax credit included in the Recovery Act’s largest package of tax cuts in history, has helped stimulate Southern Nevada’s housing market and this important extension will further boost its effects."
Titus Votes to Protect Consumers, Speed Up Changes to Credit Card Companies Abusive Practices“Congress took important steps to enact new protections for consumers, banning unfair rate increases and abusive fees and penalties by credit card companies. Unfortunately, credit card companies have been taking advantage of the time they were given to implement these changes by gouging their customers with last minute rate hikes and other charges. Families are struggling to make ends meet during this tough economic time. The last thing they need is credit card companies using deceptive tactics to charge them even more."
Titus, Polis Pledge Support for Health Care Bill, Praise Surcharge Fix“With a large number of small businesses in my suburban Southern Nevada district, it is critical that we do everything we can to strengthen their hand so they can be critical engines of growth in our community. After having serious concerns about the impact the first health care bill would have on small businesses, I am pleased that the new House bill takes important steps to make health insurance more affordable and accessible for the uninsured, employers, and those with preexisting conditions.”
Titus Applauds the Creation of the Congressional Military Family Caucus"The brave men and women in uniform who serve our nation make a tremendous sacrifice for our safety and security. We must not forget that they are not the only ones who bear that burden. When our servicemen and women are deployed, their families are deployed as well."
Titus on Health Care: The Status Quo Is Unacceptable"From ending discrimination based on preexisting conditions to strengthening Medicare by reducing waste and closing the donut hole, there are a number of very positive aspects of this bill which I strongly support. It’s time to give them a serious look."
