Congresswoman Dina Titus from Nevada’s First District released the following statement in opposition to today’s House passage of H.R. 4935, the Child Tax Credit Improvement Act.

“Today, I voted against the Child Tax Credit Improvement Act of 2014 (H.R. 4935) because this bill will harm low-income families most in need,” said Congresswoman Titus. “The Child Tax Credit provides critical financial assistance to working families, but this legislation does the opposite. While it would permanently expand the credit for higher-income families, it leaves behind millions of low-income families who could see this important credit effectively disappear in just a few years.  H.R. 4935 also immediately denies this necessary financial support to 5.5 million children, the vast majority of whom are Latino, by requiring the use of a Social Security Number instead of an Individual Tax Identification Number to qualify for the portion of this credit that helps poor families.”
