Today Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District and member of the House Aviation Subcommittee announced that McCarran International Airport was awarded $26 million dollars as part of a multi-year grant for reconstruction of a major runway. Today’s announcement will help fund Phase 1 of the two-phase project. This is a multi-year grant subject to appropriations. The Airport was awarded $20 million as part of Fiscal Year 2014. The remaining $6 million will be awarded as part of Fiscal Year 2015 subject to available funding.

“McCarran Airport is central to our region’s economic future. As one of the nation’s top ten busiest airports, McCarran welcomes nearly 20 million travelers from around the world every year to Southern Nevada. This funding will help reconstruct one of the airport’s runways, allowing McCarran to keep pace with rising passenger demand and air traffic growth. Later this year Congress is likely to pass an Omnibus Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2015. I call on my colleagues to ensure that the Department of Transportation receives adequate funding so as not to threaten vital infrastructure projects which are the key to economic growth. As a member of the Aviation Subcommittee, I am committed to preserving and enhancing the safety, efficiency, and quality of our nation’s air transportation network.”
