Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that it had awarded $1,543,703 to Nevada for use at job centers designed to assist unemployed Nevadans as they look for work. These job centers, including two in Las Vegas, seek to help the unemployed by working with each individual to develop a re-employment plan, providing local labor market information that can help in finding employment, and accessing other re-employment and training services.

“More than 2 million Americans, including nearly 34,000 in Nevada, are struggling to put food on the table, a roof over their heads, and gas in their car because House Republicans have refused to hold a vote to renew unemployment insurance,” said Congresswoman Titus. “I am pleased the administration is doing what it can to alleviate the suffering of the jobless.

“But, we cannot rest here. We need a more permanent solution to the devastating problem of unemployment that continues to grip our nation, our state, and our community. It’s time for Republicans to do the right thing and act immediately to extend unemployment benefits to those who have been faithfully looking for work these long months and to preserve this critical lifeline for our families and our economy.”

There are two job centers located in the First District of Nevada. The One Stop Career Center is located at 6330 W. Charleston Boulevard and can be reached at 702-822-4200. The Nevada Job Connect-Maryland Parkway is located at 3405 South Maryland Parkway and can be reached at 702-486-0100.
