February 20, 2015 Las Vegas, NV - Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District released the following statement in response to the decision by the Department of Justice to seek an emergency order from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to lift the Texas-based U.S. District Court’s order blocking the President’s executive actions on immigration. If granted, the stay will allow the federal government to move forward and begin accepting applications for expanded DACA and DAPA. “The district court’s decision this week to ignore the strong legal foundation and five decades of precedent supporting the legality of the President’s actions on immigration was flawed, plain and simple. I applaud the Department of Justice for taking immediate action to correct this decision and allow the implementation of key protections for certain undocumented men, women, and children, including some 20,000 living in Southern Nevada. “While the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals considers the Department of Justice request for a stay and as the appeals process moves forward, I remind those seeking relief under expanded DACA and DAPA to be prepared to file applications once the ruling is final. Have your documents ready to go. We’ve fought too hard and too long to ensure that millions of people can come out of the shadows and start living the American Dream to stop now.” |
