April 8, 2014 Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District released the following statement today after cosponsoring H.R. 4415, the House companion to the Senate bill to extend long-term unemployment benefits. Rep. Titus also signed a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner urging him to bring the bipartisan Senate bill to a vote.
“Yesterday the Senate passed a bipartisan bill to extend emergency unemployment benefits for almost 2.3 million Americans, including more than 26,000 in Nevada, who are struggling to put food on the table, a roof over their heads, and gas in their car,” said Congresswoman Titus. “I urge Speaker Boehner to bring this legislation to the House floor immediately. Passing this bill will protect the 60,300 additional Nevadans who stand to lose their unemployment benefits in the coming months, and save almost 3,000 jobs in our state. In January and February alone, Nevada’s economy lost $54.2 million due to the expiration of emergency unemployment benefits. Nevada’s job seekers cannot wait any longer. House Republicans must do the right thing and act immediately to preserve this critical lifeline for our families and our economy.”
