Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement regarding House Republicans’ Homeland Security funding bill. The legislative package includes provisions to prevent the implementation of the President’s executive actions to improve the immigration system as well as to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, putting hundreds of thousands of DREAMers, including almost 10,000 young men and women living in Nevada, at risk of deportation.

“House Republicans' plan to hold critical Homeland Security funding hostage in order to advance their partisan, anti-immigrant agenda is reckless and irresponsible, especially in light of recent events,” said Titus. “It is clear that Republicans will stop at nothing, including putting Americans at risk, in order to dismantle key protections for immigrant families.”

A new report, based on data from the White House Council of Economic Advisors, projects the President’s Immigration Accountability Executive Actions will grow the U.S. economy by $90 billion to $210 billion over the next ten years – which translates into increasing Nevada's GDP by $700 million to $1.7 billion. This economic growth means more revenue to meet Nevada’s needs. The CEA data also show the executive actions will have no impact on the likelihood of employment of U.S. born workers, and would raise average wages for U.S. born workers by $170 a year.  All of these increases would be lost under House Republicans’ radical anti-immigrant Homeland Security bill.

"The President's executive actions to improve our immigration system will help to protect families, strengthen communities, and boost our economy," continued Titus. "I urge House Republicans to stop playing partisan games and restore certainty to DHS funding right away.”
