Today Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement in response to the decision by the Supreme Court of the United States granting marriage rights for same-sex couples nationwide.

“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court ensures that all loving, committed couples are entitled to equal protection under the law regardless of whom they love or what state they call home,” said Congresswoman Titus “Today we turn a page in our nation’s history, but we know that the fight for equality is far from over.

“Now with the marriage equality issue settled by the Supreme Court, I will press House Leadership to immediately consider my legislation, H.R. 1598; the Veteran Spouses Equal Treatment Act, which removes the language contained in the law governing the VA that prevents gay and lesbian service members, veterans, and their spouses from accessing the full-range of their earned VA benefits.”

A member of the House Equality Caucus, sponsor of the Veteran Spouses Equal Treatment Act, and cosponsor of the Respect for Marriage Act, the Employee Non-Discrimination Act, and the Student Non-Discrimination Act, Congresswoman Titus has been a fierce advocate for LGBT rights in Congress.
