Nevada Current: DACA ruling scrambles Dreamers’ plans — yet again

Last week, U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen out of Texas ruled the Obama era program illegal and blocked the Biden administration from accepting new applications. President Joe Biden quickly vowed to appeal the decision, but in the meantime the estimated 80,000 undocumented immigrants colloquially known as Dreamers remain vulnerable and frustrated at yet another hurdle in their fight for citizenship.

LVRJ: Fearing slaughter of wild horses, lawmakers seek to halt adoption program

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and 30 House members, including Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., urged Haaland to halt the adoption program and conduct an investigation into practice. “Wild horses and burros are icons of the American West,” Titus and other lawmakers told Haaland in a June 2 letter. “They are protected under federal law and cherished by Americans across the country.”

“The legislation to create this commission was forged out of a bipartisan compromise between the top Democrat and Republican on the Homeland Security Committee. Minority Leader (Kevin) McCarthy made three requests regarding the composition of this commission and Democrats agreed to all of them,” Titus said. “Under this bill, both sides would have equal representation on the commission and equal subpoena power.
