Today Congresswoman Dina Titus announced the introduction of the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act to preserve states’ rights and ensure that individuals and businesses following the laws of the State of Nevada, and other states where marijuana use is legal, are protected from federal prosecution. Titus is an original cosponsor of the bipartisan legislation reintroduced today in the House of Representatives.

“State adoption of marijuana laws and accompanying regulations has created a legal patchwork of conflicting state, local, and federal statutes,” said Titus. “As more states join Nevada in adopting medical marijuana laws and accompanying regulations, it is essential that Congress address the issue to preserve states’ rights and ensure patients and businesses are protected from federal prosecution.”

The bill is led by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) and is cosponsored by Reps. Steve Cohen (D-TN), Duncan Hunter (R-CA), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Don Young (R-AK), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Janice Schakowsky (D-IL), Thomas Massie (R-KY), Jared Polis (D-CO), Justin Amash (R-MI), and Mark Pocan (D-WI).
