Las Vegas, NV – Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement in anticipation of President Trump’s visit to Las Vegas:

“The last time Donald Trump came to our state, he promised to oppose the unsafe, unsound storage of nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain,” said Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-1). “Then he turned his back on Nevadans by including funding for this doomed project in his budget. Well, we have a message for the President: We do not use nuclear energy, we do not produce nuclear waste, and we should not be forced to store it.

“Yet, we know Donald Trump doesn’t keep his promises. He said Mexico would pay for the wall and instead he stole from troops at our nearby military bases to pay for his fake emergency. At the same time, he refuses to support legislation that would protect 15,400 DREAMers and TPS recipients in District 1 alone from the threat of deportation.

“While the President speaks in the heart of my district on the Las Vegas strip, his budget would threaten our local economy by eliminating federal funding for Brand USA – the public-private partnership that promotes the United States as a premier travel destination to international visitors. Cities like Las Vegas depend on tourism to boost local economies and create jobs.

“Meanwhile, the President is doubling down on eliminating the Affordable Care Act without even implementing a replacement, which would take us back to the days when health insurance companies could discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions. Last year, the President shamefully endorsed a plan that would leave 44,200 people in my district without health care coverage. Donald Trump’s cruel agenda is harmful to Las Vegas. We deserve better.”
