Today, on the two month anniversary of the 1 October massacre that occurred in Nevada’s First Congressional District, Rep. Dina Titus, a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, joined colleagues from the Nevada Delegation to reiterate her call for the House Judiciary Committee to host a hearing on bump stocks, which were used in the Las Vegas massacre killing 58 and injuring 489. The letter is attached. Representative Titus released the following statement:

“As we mark two months since that tragic evening that took the lives of 58 and forever changed the lives of thousands of survivors and their families, I again implore my Republican colleagues to answer the nation’s call for action to prevent gun violence. I have introduced a number of bills to address bump stocks, ban access to high capacity magazines, require reporting on the purchasing of multiple semi-automatic weapons as we currently do for handguns, and make improvements to the background check system. Republican leaders, however, are pushing the NRA’s agenda, undermining state gun safety laws and nationalizing concealed carry reciprocity. For the families of those lost and the survivors of the 1 October massacre, of Sutherland Springs, Texas, and the countless other incidents of gun violence that occur every day in communities large and small, the Congress must take real, commonsense action to prevent future tragedies, not appease the gun lobby and make our communities less safe.”

Congresswoman Titus is an original sponsor of multiple pieces of legislation addressing gun violence:

• H.R. 4168; the Closing the Bump-Stock Loophole Act, bipartisan legislation to regulate bump stocks, and similar devices, in the same manner as we do machine guns.
• H.R. 4025; the Multiple Firearm Sales Reporting Modernization Act, which requires reporting on the purchase of multiple semi-automatic weapons over a short period of time in the same manner as we currently require for handguns.
• H.R. 4477; the Fix NICS Act, bipartisan legislation which makes minor improvements to address failures in the federal background check reporting process  
• H.R. 4052; the Keep Americans Safe Act, which bans high capacity magazines.
• H.R. 4020; the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act, bipartisan legislation to require background checks on all commercial firearm sales.
• H.R. 3947; the Automatic Gunfire Prevention Act, a bill to ban bump stocks and similar devices.
