Investment in transit is essential to meeting current and future growth and these funds will help to develop a transit system to serve this major artery and revitalize the neighborhoods up and down Maryland. December 18, 2018 Las Vegas, NV – Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District announced that the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada was awarded a $300,000 competitive grant under the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transit-Oriented Development Pilot Planning Program. The funding will be used to support the planning for new transit services and redevelopment along an 8.7 mile stretch of Maryland Parkway. “Stretching from the airport to downtown, Maryland Parkway is vital to the economy of the Las Vegas Valley,” said Representative Titus, a member of the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit. “Investment in transit is essential to meeting current and future growth and these funds will help to develop a transit system to serve this major artery and revitalize the neighborhoods up and down Maryland. I look forward to partnering with the RTC, local officials, business groups, and neighborhood associations to help advance this proposal.” "We know that where communities implement high capacity transit, economic development follows," said Tina Quigley, RTC General Manager. "This grant will help ensure that we have a strategic and collaborative plan in place so development occurs in a thoughtful manner that benefits everyone. It will allow us to maximize the opportunities that high capacity transit can potentially bring to Maryland Parkway, a vital corridor in our valley that is ripe for redevelopment and additional investment."
