Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District issued the following statement on Republicans’ unanimous vote earlier today to block consideration of a clean funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Without Congressional action, the Department of Homeland Security will run out of funding at the end of the month which will trigger a partial government shutdown. House Republicans, however, refuse to pass legislation to fund the DHS unless that legislation includes measures that would prevent the implementation of the President’s executive actions to improve our broken immigration system. They want to end both the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) program, which would put thousands of DREAMers, including almost 10,000 young men and women living in Nevada and their families, at risk of deportation.  Today, Congresswoman Titus cosponsored H.R. 861 to fund the Department of Homeland Security through the end of the fiscal year, without the unreasonable amendments included in the House Republican version of the bill.

“House Republicans are playing a dangerous and reckless game of partisan politics with the safety of the American people. They have put their extreme agenda over national security. I am appalled by this war on immigrants being waged by House Republicans. As threats grow daily, both overseas and at home, it is unconscionable for the GOP to continue holding the DHS hostage.”
