The skinny budget is a dangerous way to pay for the tax scam. February 12, 2018 Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s FY19 Skinny Budget proposal. “To pay for the Republican tax scam and a draconian crackdown on immigrants, the Trump Administration has released a budget that attacks Southern Nevada and social safety net programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and supplemental nutrition funding. “Southern Nevada is a major target in the FY19 skinny budget. The Administration continues to ignore the will of Nevadans by authorizing up to $120 million for the unworkable Yucca Mountain project. That sum would be a tiny down payment on a project that will cost $100 billion and ship nuclear waste through hundreds of congressional districts across the country. This is unacceptable because Nevada is not a wasteland. “The Trump Budget also attacks the heart of our community. The successful Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act, which has paid for the restoration of Red Rock Canyon, bike trails, and other parks, would be defunded in order to pay for the President’s misplaced priorities, including his great wall along our southern border. “In addition, the Trump Budget hamstrings the travel and tourism industry by ending Brand USA and sending the money generated from travel visas to the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. “Rather than investing in education, infrastructure, renewable energy, and environmental protections, the President’s budget divests in our nation’s future. In short, this is a budget that will make America sicker, more isolated, and potentially destitute.” |
