We need a plan that will finally connect Las Vegas to Phoenix. Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement on President Donald Trump’s infrastructure plan that does nothing to address the $2 trillion dollars in investment needs, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers, or provide solutions for critical projects like I-11. “This supposed roadmap for revamping our nation’s infrastructure will lead consumers, travelers, and businesses to a dead end. The plan shifts the burden to local governments, weakens regulatory oversight, fosters the sale of federal assets, promotes privatization, and incentivizes tolling our nation’s highways and bridges. “This proposal does not focus on long-term infrastructure investments. For example, it includes no specifics for completing major projects like I-11 and instead sets up a scenario whereby Nevada will have to complete the interstate to Phoenix with little to no help from the federal government. “This plan will put Southern Nevada on a collision course with the needs of our economy, threatening our environment, straining state and local government coffers, and rolling back regulatory measures that are in place to ensure project safety, maintenance, longevity, and accountability. “The long-awaited proposal creates a roadblock for progress and is a blueprint for lining the pockets of hedge fund managers while tolling the American traveling public and businesses.” |
