Titus Unanimously Selected to Committee Leadership Position

February 14, 2018
Rep. Titus will be the Ranking Member of the Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management Subcommittee in the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

February 14, 2018

Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District announced that she will serve as Ranking Member of the Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management Subcommittee in the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Democratic committee members unanimously selected Rep. Titus to take the leadership role on this subcommittee which oversees the Federal Emergency Management Agency, General Services Administration, the Economic Development Administration, the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Denali Commission, and several others.

Rep. Titus has served on the Transportation Committee since 2013 and currently serves on three additional subcommittees: Aviation, Highways and Transit, and Water Resources and Environment

“I am honored that my colleagues selected me to serve as ranking member of a subcommittee with authority over issues of great importance for Nevada and the nation. The subcommittee’s oversight of FEMA allows me to help Nevada’s communities better respond to natural disasters like wildfires and flooding. The jurisdiction over GSA and federal buildings gives me greater authority as both a watchdog over and advocate for our courthouses, agency offices like Social Security and DOE, and properties like the GSA’s Old Post Office in Washington, D.C. that is now home to the controversial Trump International Hotel. The position also gives me greater access to the Economic Development Administration which recently awarded a grant to North Las Vegas for water infrastructure.

“Finally, this subcommittee oversees the world’s largest museum and research center, the Smithsonian Institution, which houses some of Nevada’s most valued treasures and artifacts and preserves our history for future generations.

“I want to thank Rep. Peter DeFazio for his leadership and for giving me the opportunity to serve in this role.”

Quote from Ranking Member Rep. Peter DeFazio on Rep. Titus’ new position.

“Throughout her career, Congresswoman Dina Titus has been a tireless advocate for her district and strong voice for investment in our infrastructure. Congresswoman Titus’ leadership will be essential as Democrats continue to push for critical investments that will create millions of jobs and rebuild and replace our crumbling network of highways, bridges, railways, airports, and water infrastructure. As an experienced Member of this Committee, she is going to do an incredible job as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management and under her leadership, we will build stronger and more resilient communities throughout the country,” said Ranking Member Peter DeFazio.
