Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement after President Trump’s comments on bump stocks.

“I worry that the President’s comments were more about shaping a narrative than saving lives. Prior to the 1 October tragedy, ATF said it does not have the authority to ban bump stocks. While I welcome something sensible coming from the White House, we need more than an assurance from President Trump and Attorney General Sessions that the Administration is working to prevent future acts of gun violence. The nation’s needs would be better served if the President supported the two pieces of legislation I sponsored that either ban or regulate bump stocks. I have written to Republican leadership, demanding action and requesting hearings to debate the bills. Instead they passed the NRA’s top priority in the House: concealed carry reciprocity. If the President really wants to save more lives he should demand real action on bump stocks and call on Congressional Republicans to pass legislation I’ve championed to ban high-capacity magazines, expand background checks, and strengthen reporting requirements for anyone who buys multiple semi-automatic weapons at one time.”
