Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement after co-sponsoring a resolution to reinstate net neutrality.

“I agree with the vast majority of Americans who want the internet to promote innovation, access to information, and a competitive economy. All of that is at risk without strong net neutrality protections. This resolution will give Republicans the opportunity to join with Democrats to overturn the FCC’s decision that kills the Open Internet Order and reaffirm our nation’s commitment to a free and open internet.”

BACKGROUND

Last week, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) published in the Federal Register its final rule to repeal the Open Internet Order. The Congressional Review Act (CRA) allows lawmakers in the House and Senate to file joint resolutions of disapproval to overturn decisions like the one approved by the FCC to undo the Open Internet Order. Rep. Titus is one of 149 House co-sponsors of the Resolution. The Senate resolution has 49 co-sponsors. Democrats plan to force a vote on the resolution in the coming months.
