Titus Statement on Nrc Yucca Meeting

February 27, 2018
It was an incredible waste of time and resources.

Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement regarding the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) Licensing Support Network Advisory Review Panel (LSNARP) meeting in Rockville, MD.

“Today’s meeting is another incredible waste of time and resources. Until this Administration recognizes the need for a consent-based approach to the siting of nuclear waste repositories, long-term storage issues will never be solved. It’s a fool’s errand to reconstitute the Licensing Support Network without recognizing the need to amend the Nuclear Waste Policy Act with my consent-based legislation.”

The NRC’s LSNARP meeting will examine developing a technical document database as part of the Trump Administration’s effort to restart the licensing process for the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository.
