Congresswoman Titus released the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 240, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2015, which includes misguided provisions to prevent the implementation of the President’s executive actions to improve the immigration system as well as to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, putting hundreds of thousands of DREAMers, including almost 10,000 young men and women living in Nevada, at risk of deportation. January 14, 2015 Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. “I’m extremely disappointed that House Republicans have put their political security ahead of national security and let anti-immigrant, right-wing radicals trump the safety of American families,” said Titus. “Recent events around the world provide a stark reminder of the threats that exist to our nation’s security. Yet amid the rising risks of terrorism, Republicans are holding critical Homeland Security funding hostage in order to undermine and roll back key protections for immigrant families. I urge the Senate to pass a clean, bipartisan bill so we can restore certainty to DHS funding and protect the American people.” |
