TITUS LEADS LETTERS TO COMMITTEE LEADERS ON NEW YUCCA MOUNTAIN REPORT

Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District sent letters to lawmakers on the House Committee on Appropriations and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce to highlight a new report by the State of Nevada’s Agency for Nuclear Projects on H.R. 3053, the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 2017. Rep. Titus led the letter and was joined in support by Reps. Rosen and Kihuen. In April of 2017, Rep. Titus testified at a House Committee on Energy and Commerce hearing in opposition to H.R. 3053 highlighting the numerous flaws in the legislation and the direct attacks on the rights of the State of Nevada.

Given your important role in carrying out the Nuclear Waste Policy Act, we want to provide you with analysis developed by the State of Nevada’s Agency for Nuclear Projects on H.R. 3053; the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 2017. This office provides technical expertise and advice to both the Governor and the legislature on issues related to nuclear waste. In June of last year the House Committee on Energy and Commerce held a markup on H.R. 3053; the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act. Given the impacts this legislation will have on our constituents, the State of Nevada’s Agency for Nuclear Projects developed an important analysis of the bill, which we would like to share to you.
