Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District, a senior Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, welcomed the introduction of the House’s Moving America and the Environment Forward Framework.
In April of 2019, Congresswoman Titus (NV-1) outlined her priorities for a transportation package in the attached letter to House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Peter DeFazio (OR-4). The House package released today reflects Congresswoman Titus’s proposals to make smart infrastructure investments to benefit Southern Nevada.
“The infrastructure package released by the House today would significantly improve Southern Nevada’s infrastructure, including our highways and our airport,” said Congresswoman Titus (NV-1). “These investments would create good-paying jobs and protect the environment while making travel easier. I will continue to ensure that Southern Nevada has a seat at the table in any federal discussion about infrastructure.”
The House’s framework to invest $760 billion over five years includes many of Congresswoman Titus’s top priorities including:
• Investments in Major Projects – Provides funding for vital infrastructure projects of regional and national significance, such as I-11.
• Investment in Alternative Fuel Infrastructure – Provides opportunities and funding to States, MPOs, and local governments to build fueling infrastructure for zero pollution hydrogen and electric vehicles along designated highway corridors.
• Targets Highway Safety – Modifies the Highway Safety Improvement Program to focus on safety improvement that address the greatest safety risks, including improving pedestrian and cyclist safety, and restores the Safe Routes to Schools program.
• Expands Local Control – Expands decision-making over federal funds to other levels of government and provides additional authority to metropolitan planning organizations, such as the RTC of Southern Nevada, that demonstrate the capacity to administer federal funds.
• Mitigates Greenhouse Gas Pollution – Invests heavily in transit and zero emission buses to reduce greenhouse gas pollution and ease congestion by providing people with quality transit options.
• Expands Passenger Rail – Supports establishing new or improved intercity, commuter, and higher-speed passenger rail corridors, while also reducing congestion and improving on-time passenger rail service.
• Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) Cap – Increases the PFC cap which would allow for increased investment in airports that are at or over capacity, including McCarran International Airport.
