With major deadlines from TPS and DACA, Rep. Titus and local advocates are rallying for local families. January 5, 2018 Las Vegas – On Friday, Rep. Dina Titus will host the Consul General of El Salvador, immigrants, advocates, and other community leaders to raise awareness about the looming deadlines for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). TPS for Salvadorians expires on Jan. 8. Some 4,800 Nevada workers with TPS are Salvadoran, contributing at least $255 million annually to the state’s GDP. Around 13,000 Nevada DREAMers are at risk with Trump’s March deadline for DACA. If DREAMers are forced to leave, the state’s GDP will lose out on more than $600 million in the next decade. President Trump imposed artificial deadlines on these successful programs in order to spread fear, silence communities, and squeeze Republicans for border wall funding. Families in Las Vegas know that this is not viable or moral. Rep. Titus and community advocates are speaking out in hopes of raising awareness about the GOP’s inhumane attacks on immigrants and bills she and her Democratic colleagues are co-sponsoring to halt the Trump Administration’s callous attempts at ripping apart families. It is time we ensure that TPS and DACA recipients can remain in the country that they call home. WHERE: Las Vegas City Hall, 495 S. Main Street WHEN: 2:30 PM PST WHO: Rep.
