Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District, a Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after receiving a Congressional briefing from the Trump Administration on the ongoing situation in Iran and Iraq:

“The threat from Iran is far more serious today than it has been in recent memory,” said Congresswoman Titus (NV-1). “Iran has said it will no longer abide by restrictions under the nuclear deal and President Trump has no long-term strategy to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

“Due to the Trump Administration’s foreign policy decisions, Iran is once again on a path to build a nuclear weapon, our anti-ISIS mission in the Middle East has stopped, and our Iraqi allies have lost trust in us. Skillful diplomacy is needed to re-engage our European allies.

“I’m unsatisfied by the information provided by the Trump Administration at today’s Congressional briefing. President Trump owes the American people – and the U.S. Congress – evidence for the claim that Qasem Soleimani was planning an imminent attack against us. I will use my role on the Foreign Affairs Committee to demand that evidence.”
