Today Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District released the following statement regarding the designation of Basin & Range National Monument, by President Obama:

“The Basin and Range National Monument stands as a showcase of Nevada’s wondrous desert habitat,” said Congresswoman Titus. “Home to flora and fauna native only to our state, this monument preserves and protects the unique natural, cultural, and historical resources of this significant region for generations to come. I am proud to stand with President Obama, Senator Reid, and all the Nevadans who have advocated for establishing this lasting symbol of the region’s natural beauty and rich history.”

Congresswoman Titus has long advocated for conservation of Nevada’s open spaces and is the sponsor of H.R. 857, the Garden Valley Withdrawal Act to protect this region for generations.
