Rep. Titus Releases Statement on Minibus Appropriations Vote

July 18, 2018
This partisan legislative package cuts funding from a number of vital programs and agencies, further undermines our national security, and puts our economic recovery at risk.

Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement on H.R. 6147, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act:

“This partisan legislative package cuts funding from a number of vital programs and agencies, further undermines our national security, and puts our economic recovery at risk,” said Representative Titus. “The Republican appropriations package zeroes out funding for grants to states to protect the integrity of our elections. This flies in the face of the consensus views of multiple intelligence agencies and state and federal officials who have testified before Congress that our election infrastructure continues to be at risk of foreign attacks. Democrats even provided Republicans an opportunity to restore this funding before final passage, but every single Republican voted “No”.

The bill rolls back Dodd-Frank consumer protections and weakens the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This bill is also an assault on environmental protections: it cuts funding from the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds, it takes away from proven wild horse birth-control programs in favor of violent chemical and surgical castrations, and cuts funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund which invests in our parks, trails, and public spaces.

With the end of the fiscal year less than 6 weeks away, Congressional Republicans have chosen a partisan path that has prevented even a single appropriations bill from reaching the President’s desk. This failure of leadership only injects further uncertainty into our economy and hurts our national defense.”
