After supporting the effort to bring cleaner-burning buses to Las Vegas, Rep. Titus celebrated the DOT's grant announcement. July 29, 2016 Las Vegas – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District issued a statement on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s $13,324,000 grant for 25 new cleaner-burning, natural-gas-powered vehicles in Southern Nevada. The Regional Transportation Commission will receive the funds to replace its diesel transit buses and provide the community with a “Green Fleet.” Rep. Titus, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, wrote a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx in March to encourage DOT funding for the new buses. The RTC will replace the diesel buses at the end of their designated service life. “Older diesel vehicles have higher fuel costs, require more maintenance, and emit harmful emissions that negatively impact our air quality,” Rep. Titus said. “These buses will save taxpayer dollars, reduce Southern Nevada’s carbon footprint, and help to provide a better experience for the passengers who ride to work and sightsee in Las Vegas every year.” |
