July 9, 2014 Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District announced that the U.S. Department of the Interior has awarded $582,097 in federal grants to Nevada through the Land and Water Conservation Fund. This fund provides states with vital resources for state-identified outdoor recreation and conservation projects such as urban parks, hiking trails, baseball and soccer fields, and play grounds. “In the age of Twitter and Facebook, Netflix and Hulu, PlayStation and Xbox, it is easy to forget the simple joy of getting outside,” said Congresswoman Titus. “Whether we are hiking the trails of Red Rock or pushing our children on the swings, our parks are valuable resources, and we cannot take them for granted. This funding will not only create new and revitalized parks and green spaces to be enjoyed by present and future generations of Nevadans, it will also provide a boost to our local economy and create new jobs within the tourism industry.” The Land and Water Conservation Fund was established in 1964 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. A recent analysis of the Land and Water Conservation Fund found that every $1 invested in land acquisition generated a $4 return on the investment for communities. |
