As Republicans turn their backs on immigrant families, DREAMers, and DACA recipients, I will continue to fight for a path to citizenship for these young people and an end to Trump’s inhumane policy of separating families. June 13, 2018 Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement on the House GOP’s failure to address the issues facing DREAMers and DACA recipients while the Administration continues to tear immigrant families apart: “Despite controlling the House, Senate, and White House, Republicans have once demonstrated their complete inability to lead on the issue of immigration. Meanwhile, an estimated 800,000 DACA recipients – including 13,000 in Nevada and 5,000 in District One – continue to live in a state of legal limbo. So-called “moderate” Republicans have had to rely on the entirety of the House Democratic Caucus to try and bring a fair process to the House floor with the “Queen-of-the-Hill” rule discharge petition, which Speaker Ryan has done everything he can to crush. Now he is promising a vote on two pieces of legislation that will hold DREAMer and DACA recipients’ lives hostage in exchange for funding Trump’s border wall priorities. All the while, Republicans have turned a blind eye to the children and families being ripped apart at the southern border thanks to the Trump Administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy. As Republicans turn their backs on immigrant families, DREAMers, and DACA recipients, I will continue to fight for a path to citizenship for these young people and an end to Trump’s inhumane policy of separating families. |
