June 6, 2013 Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District released the following statement today after voting in favor of a Democratic motion to increase the funding for the State and Local Grant Programs, including the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI). Congresswoman Titus has been actively working with officials from the Department of Homeland Security to restore $1.8 million in lost UASI funding for the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Only one Republican joined in this effort and the motion failed 196 to 226. “Two days in a row, I voted to increase the funding for state and local grant programs, including the UASI program. I was very disappointed that DHS did not provide vital counter terrorism funding that Las Vegas has successfully used to protect local residents and the 40 million visitors who travel here every year,” said Titus. “It was discouraging that the Republicans, including those in our own delegation, did not join us in this important effort. I will continue to work with DHS to restore this funding and improve their formulas so that Las Vegas is not unfairly excluded again.” |
