The rescission package that passed on the House floor today is more smoke and mirrors by the Republicans who claim to be fiscally responsible while creating a $1.5 trillion deficit with their massive tax scam. June 8, 2018
Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement regarding the passage of President Trump’s rescission package:
“The rescission package that passed on the House floor today is more smoke and mirrors by the Republicans who claim to be fiscally responsible while creating a $1.5 trillion deficit with their massive tax scam. In an attempt to cover up with some of their fiscal recklessness they are taking money from CHIP, affordable housing, and clean energy research. Rescinding these funds prevents us from reinvesting in areas that boost health outcomes and job creation for working families, as we have done in years past.”
The Rescissions Package:
• Cuts over $141 million from the Capital Magnet Fund which helps finance affordable housing and community development activities.
• Cuts $30 million from the Economic Development Administration which provides grants for infrastructure projects like a $3 million grant to support sewer system development at the North Las Vegas APEX Industrial Park.
• Cuts $160.7 million dollars from renewable energy development loans.
• Cuts $16 million from the Land and Water Conservation Fund projects like those currently active in Nevada’s Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
• Cuts nearly $39 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Public Housing Capital Fund for improvements to public housing projects.
• Prevents $5.1 billion in Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) funding from being reinvested into health, education, and research initiatives.
• Takes $1.9 billion from the CHIP Child Enrollment Contingency Fund which helps states that face funding shortfalls due to higher than expected enrollment of children in CHIP.
