March 17, 2016
Legislation is another attempt by GOP to attack President Obama's executive actions on immigration.

Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District issued a statement on the passage of the GOP’s extremist H.Res. 639. The legislation gives House Speaker Paul Ryan the ability to file on behalf of the full U.S. House an amicus brief with the Supreme Court in United States v Texas, a lawsuit challenging the immigration executive actions by President Obama in 2014 to expand DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and create DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of American Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents).

“Speaker Ryan’s resolution for an amicus brief reflects the worst aspects of the GOP,” Rep. Titus said. “It plays into the xenophobia and extremism that the party has championed of late. The brief, which unfortunately will be submitted on behalf of the full U.S. House, does not represent the sentiments of my constituents or Democrats in Congress. Like President Obama, we believe that our nation must embrace immigrants rather than degrade them and rip their families apart. Our communities benefit from the many cultural, social, and economic contributions from immigrants every day.”
