May 14, 2019 Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District responded to the news that the baseline FY 2020 Energy and Water Development Funding Bill does not include any funding to revitalize the Yucca Mountain licensing process. In early April, Congresswoman Titus led the Democrats in the Nevada Congressional Delegation in writing a letter to the leadership of the House Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee in opposition to funding for Yucca Mountain. Later that month, Congresswoman Titus testified before the same subcommittee and urged its leadership to block efforts to revitalize Yucca Mountain. “Keeping funding for Yucca Mountain out of this legislation was no small task,” said Congresswoman Titus (NV-1). “I’m grateful to Speaker Pelosi, the House Appropriations Democratic leadership, and everyone who has joined me in preventing Nevada from becoming the dumping ground for our nation’s nuclear waste. This fight is far from over, but I’m encouraged by the support on our side.” ### |
