Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released a statement in response to President Trump’s financial disclosure which revealed that last year the President made over $40 million dollars off his D.C. hotel. Congresswoman Titus Chairs the Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management Subcommittee which oversees the General Services Administration (GSA).

“Donald Trump is profiting from his presidency in violation of the Constitution,” said Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-1). “Instead of separating himself from the Trump Organization’s business interests, the President is essentially accepting bribes from giant corporations and foreign governments looking for sweetheart deals. Donald Trump’s casual corruption helps him get richer at the expense of the American people. As Chair of the subcommittee responsible for overseeing the GSA, I will lead the effort to hold the Trump Administration accountable for this violation of the public trust.”

Background: In a January 2019 report, the General Services Administration Office of Inspector General found that the GSA “should have considered whether the Foreign Emoluments Clause or the Presidential Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution barred” President Trump from being a tenant to the lease at his D.C. hotel. The Inspector General also concluded that GSA “improperly ignored these Emoluments Clauses, even though the lease itself requires compliance with the laws of the United States, including the Constitution.”
