May 6, 2016 TOMORROW: Rep. Titus to Recognize National Teen Safe Driving Month with SMARTeen Driver, CCSD, Nevada Highway Patrol, Las Vegas Metro Police, UNLV, the Office of Traffic Safety, DMV, Zero Teen Fatalities, and More Las Vegas – Tomorrow Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District, along with a panel of state and local officials, will kick off Teen Safe Driving Month by attending an award ceremony for high school students who participated in the “What Auto Safety Means to Me” art contest. Clark County School District partnered with SMARTeen Driver, a free auto safety and car care clinic, to help students raise awareness about accidents and fatalities on our roads. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. The event will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Findlay Kia Showroom located on 5275 W. Sahara Boulevard. “Zero is the only acceptable number of fatalities for our drivers,” Rep. Titus said. “To reach that goal we must educate more of our young motorists about the consequences of breaking the rules of the road. I want to thank SMARTeen Driver for its strong advocacy on this important topic and CCSD for encouraging students to learn more about safe driving.” “The growing demands on our roads and highways create the need for more awareness among our newest drivers,” said Sarah Lee Marks, founder of SMARTeen Driver. “Having all these invested parties together to celebrate National Teen Safe Driving Month is further testament to our commitment to this cause in Las Vegas.”
