Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced that it will terminate Temporary Protected Status for about 3,000 Nicaraguans while delaying a final decision for those who have fled Honduras. The Administration is also expected to make decisions on TPS recipients from Haiti and El Salvador in the coming weeks.

There are 6,300 TPS recipients from El Salvador, Honduras, and Haiti in Nevada in addition to 5,200 children whose parents are living in the state under TPS status, according to the Center for American Progress.  

“The Trump Administration continues its callous anti-immigrant and inhumane actions with this latest decision. These folks fled unthinkable circumstances, built new lives, and have contributed to communities in Nevada for nearly 20 years, generating an estimated $269 million for our economy annually. A party that allegedly supports family values and economic prosperity, Republicans have instead resorted to tearing our community apart rather than considering a comprehensive immigration reform plan to address TPS, DACA, and other programs to keep hard-working, law-abiding families in the places they call home.”
