Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement regarding H.R. 8406, an updated version of the Heroes Act. October 1, 2020 Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement regarding H.R. 8406, an updated version of the Heroes Act: “Nevada has the highest unemployment rate in the country,” said Congresswoman Titus (NV-1). “This bill will restore the $600 per week federal unemployment assistance, provide a new round of direct payments to Americans, offer mortgage and rental assistance, and invest in the resources we need to get this virus under control. It will also keep health care workers, first responders, and teachers in Clark County on the payroll. Countless jobs at local restaurants and in the live entertainment industry would be saved if this bill becomes law.” “I don’t understand how Republicans in Congress can continue to say that we should ‘take a pause’ on providing relief when so many individuals and families are hurting through no fault of their own. By reducing the cost of the Heroes Act by one trillion dollars, it is clear that House Democrats are willing to compromise to address the health and economic crises while President Trump and Senator McConnell are running away from the negotiating table.” |
