Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District, a Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, released the following statement after co-sponsoring and voting to pass a resolution (H.J. Res. 77) opposing President Trump’s decision to betray Syrian Kurds in the face of Turkish military operations:

“President Trump’s reckless decision to abandon our Kurdish partners in Syria has created a crisis in the region,” said Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-1). “For years, the Syrian Kurdish forces were reliable partners in waging war against ISIS and helping us eliminate their territorial Caliphate. Yet, now we have turned our backs on them – betraying these allies and allowing for their slaughter.

“So the next time the U.S. needs a true friend in an unstable region, who will trust us as a partner? How can President Trump possibly justify allowing ISIS fighters to break free?

“We have created a power vacuum that ISIS, Putin, and Assad are quickly filling. Our allies deserve better than this. The safety of the American people is too important.”
