October 25, 2019 Today the Trump Organization announced that it is considering selling its lease of the Old Post Office Building located in Washington, D.C. This news comes just one day after a subpoena was issued in Congresswoman Titus’s investigation of the property. “Donald Trump should’ve completely divested from his businesses before he became President,” said Congresswoman Titus (NV-1). “Instead, President Trump has made money from people looking to curry favor by booking hotel rooms and hosting private events. The Founding Fathers put the Emoluments Clauses in the Constitution to prevent presidents from accepting bribes. Selling this hotel will not change the fact that President Trump has ignored the Constitution for nearly three years and he continues to encourage corruption in his own backyard.” Background: Congresswoman Titus is the Chair of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over all federal buildings, including the Old Post Office Building in Washington, D.C. that houses Trump’s hotel. President Trump is the sole beneficiary of a trust with a controlling interest in Trump Old Post Office, LLC. More background on this investigation can be found here. |
