Las Vegas, NV – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement today in response to Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy’s order temporarily blocking the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision to overturn same-sex marriage bans in Nevada and Idaho. Prior to the 9th Circuit Court’s ruling, the Nevada and Idaho cases were “…consolidated for the purposes of disposition,” unfortunately linking the fate of both states’ bans.

“Gay and lesbian couples in Nevada, Idaho, and across the country are entitled to equal protection under the law,” said Titus. “Idaho Governor Butch Otter stands on the wrong side of history. I urge him to respect the 9th Circuit Court’s decision so these committed couples may wed.”

The stay was issued following an emergency motion from the State of Idaho. Justice Kennedy, in his issuance of the stay, noted that the plaintiffs have until 5:00pm EST, Thursday, October 9 to respond.
