Las Vegas, NV- Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $1,153,936 in Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Tenant Based Voucher funding to the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority. This money will enable homeless veterans and their families to access affordable housing. Additionally, these funds will ensure that every veteran who receives a voucher will also have access to an array of other supportive services provided by the Veterans Administration. Veterans account for 12 percent of the homeless adult population; and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development estimates that there are over 57,000 veterans without homes on any given day.

“It is unconscionable that so many men and women who fought for our country struggle to find the most basic of necessities—shelter,” said Congresswoman Titus. “Despite the falling rate of homelessness among veterans, far too many of our heroes continue to struggle to find housing and jobs. Now more than ever, as threats continue to grow abroad, we must ensure that resources are available at home to provide for those who have defended our shores. These men and women fought for us; we cannot allow them to suffer when they return. I am pleased to announce this grant which will provide critical funds to assist the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority’s efforts in our community to combat this devastating problem.”
