There are simple steps you and your family can take to prevent the spread of coronavirus:
- Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. (The World Health Organization has a good guide for thorough hand washing.)
- Cover your mouth and nose with a mask when around others outside of your home.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick and keep six feet of distance between yourself and people who don’t live in your household whenever possible.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
Patients with COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory illness with a wide range of possible symptoms including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, and more. If you suspect that you are infected with coronavirus, please call your doctor before seeking care at a medical facility.
I am working hard in Washington, D.C. to ensure that every level of government has the resources needed to keep the public safe. I believe strongly that health care treatment must be affordable and available to all.
The first emergency funding bill that we passed provided resources to public health facilities, funding to develop a vaccine, and loans for small businesses. We then passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to make sure that all coronavirus tests are free and expand unemployment benefits, nutritional assistance and leave. Now I am working with my colleagues to pass a long-term recovery package.
The people who work so hard to make our city what it is are hurting right now. I will do everything in my power to help them. Las Vegas is a resilient city. We’ve proven that before and soon we will prove it once again.
